Cayenne for Cuts and Wounds

STOPS BLEEDING   -   ANTI-FUNGAL/ANTI-BACTERIAL

Cayenne pepper (also called Capsicum frutescens) to many is known as the king of herbs.  Not only is it a spice used in cooking, but it has many medicinally benefits which comes from the chemical called Capsaicin that gives peppers their heat.  The hotter the pepper, the more capsaicin it contains.
See your doctor for serious injuries

Stops Bleeding:  Applying cayenne pepper powder directly on a cut or wound can stop bleeding in a matter of seconds under most circumstances.  The cayenne causes the body to equalize the blood pressure in the wounded area and quickly starts to clot.
If the cut or wound is severe, it would be good to drink cayenne as well.

In quoting directly from Herbalist Dr. John Christopher's book
, School of Natural Healing …"take a teaspoonful of cayenne in a glass of extra-warm water, drink it down, and by the count of ten, the bleeding will stop. Instead of all the pressure being centralized, it is equalize, and the clotting becomes more rapid.  Whether the bleeding is internal or external, a teaspoon of cayenne taken orally in a glass of hot water will stop the bleeding quickly”.

Anti-fungal/Anti-bacterial: The results of a study published in Medical Mycology shows the anti-fungal compound of cayenne pepper:

Abstract Study:
"CAY-1, a novel saponin from Capsicum frutescens (commercially known as cayenne pepper), was investigated to determine its in vitro antifungal activity, mechanism of action and mammalian cell cytotoxicity. CAY-1 was active against 16 different fungal strains, including Candida spp. and Aspergillus fumigatus [minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) ranging from 4 to 16 µg ml-1], and was especially active against Cryptococcus neoformans (90% inhibition at 1 µg ml-1). Synergistic activity was also observed between CAY-1 and amphotericin B against Candida albicans and A. fumigatus. No significant cytotoxicity was demonstrated when CAY- 1 was tested against 55 mammalian cell lines at up to 100 µg ml-1. Importantly, CAY-1 appears to act by disrupting the membrane integrity of fungal cells."

Nuts to Aging

Nuts are excellent tools to use in
your anti-aging regimen.

Omega- 3 alpha linolenic acid    -     Proteins
Anti-oxidants   -    Excellent mineral source   -   Perfect Snack

Many people try to avoid nuts because they are high in fat.  However, all fats are not created equal.  You need to consume certain fats for the body to stay healthy and function properly.  The fats you want to avoid are saturated fats like those found in eggs, cheese and meats.

On the other hand, the fats found in nuts are unsaturated and monounsaturated fats.
These are healthy fats.

Nuts are very high in fiber.  They are rich in vitamin E, selenium, zinc, and essential fatty acids.  They are also a good source of potassium, copper and selenium.  Nuts not only lower your LDL but raise your HDL.

Raw nuts are nutritional powerhouses:

·         Lower Cholesterol:  A recent study published in the American Medical Association’s Archives of Internal Medicine has proven that it can lower cholesterol levels. If you eat as little as 67g of nuts a day your cholesterol level will fall by by 5 – 7 %. The study did find that the improvement was higher with those with normal weight.  More study is being done to determine why nuts are less effective in obese people.

Choices include:
Almonds   -   Hazelnuts   -   Pecans   -   Pistachios   -   Walnuts   -   Macadamia nuts -Peanuts.

·         Anti-inflammatory:  The omega-3 fatty acids decrease the body's production of pro-inflammatory bio-chemicals.  Anti-oxidants like vitamin C, vitamin E and selenium all help to control oxidative damage by neutralizing "free radicals", the molecular renegades that cause oxidative damage and can start a chain reaction that keeps it going.  Recent research shows that zinc may also be a natural inflammation fighter
Choices include:
Walnuts   -   Brazil nuts   -   Almonds   -   Pumpkin and sunflower seeds.

·         Decrease risk of heart disease:  Researchers from Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health have examined the effect of eating nuts on cardiovascular health, reports the Harvard Men's Health Watch.
As little as two ounces of nuts a week appears to help lower heart disease risk. Healthful choices include:
           Almonds   -   Brazil nuts   -   Cashews   -   Filberts   -   Peanuts   -
           Pistachios   -   Walnuts

Energy:  Almonds and cashew nuts are like power houses of energy.
Consuming nuts on a daily basis will fight that lethargic feeling and fill the body
           with immense energy.

           Choices include:

Almonds   -   Cashews   -   Walnuts   -   Pecans

·                              Motor Skills:  To those over 50, adding a moderate , but not high amount of
walnuts may help improve motor skills.  Walnuts contain polyphenols and other
          antioxidants and essential fatty acids.

7 to 9 walnuts per day

·                             Cancer:  Nuts contain the antioxidants quercetin and campferol that may
suppress the growth of cancers. Brazil nut contains 80 micrograms of selenium,
which is important for those with prostate cancer. (Note: Many people are
allergic to the proteins in nuts, so if you have any symptoms such as itchy mouth,
tight throat, wheezing, etc. after eating nuts, stop. Consider taking a selenium
supplement instead or work with someone on how to eliminate this allergy.)

          Brazil Nuts

Boost Immune System:  Nuts are rich sources in Anti-oxidants, potassium,
zinc, iron, magnesium, copper and selenium.

Choices:

               Almonds   -   Hazelnuts   -   Pecans   -   Pistachios   -   Walnuts
Macadamia nuts   –    Peanuts   -   Brazil Nuts

Healthy Benefits
There are so many health benefits of asparagus that it should be added to a healthy diet.
  • ·         CAN REDUCE RISK OF HEART DISEASE:   Asparagus is rich in folic acid which has been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease.  Folic acid (vitamin B9) as well as other B vitamins are essential to a heart healthy diet.  Vitamin B9 also plays an important roll in cell maintenance and repair.
  • ·         ALKALINE FOOD:  Asparagus is a very high alkaline food which reduces the acidity of the blood in the body and eliminates toxins which cleanse tissue and muscle waste.  Dr. Theodore A Baroody’s book Alkalize or Die he says;  “The countless names of illnesses do not really matter. What does matter is that they all come from the same root cause...too much tissue acid waste in the body”!—Theodore A. Baroody, N.D., D.C., Ph.D.
  • ·         Detoxifies:   According to a clinical dietician at UCLA Medical Center, asparagus in the ultimate in detox vegetables.

Manuka Honey

Anti-bacterial Properties of Honey

The therapeutic and medical benefits of honey have been used for centuries.  The Egyptians used honey for it’s anti-bacterial properties as early as 1550 BC.  The Bible references the” land of milk and honey” in Exodus 3:8 and John Baptist lived on Locust and Wild Honey in the wilderness (Matthew 3:4).
At a period of time in Ancient Rome, honey was even used to pay taxes.

Secret Antibacterial Factor in Manuka Honey
A new discovery in the 1980’s revealed that honey made from bees that feed on the Manuka Bush in New Zealand provides special antibacterial properties.  In 1981 Dr. Peter Molan, Senior Lecturer at the Biochemistry Department, Waikato University New Zealand, found higher antibacterial activity levels in Manuka Honey than regular honey.

Regular honey vs. Manuka honey
Studies prove that all honey has hydrogen peroxide which is produced by an enzyme that is an antiseptic with antibacterial properties.  However, Active Manuka honey is different.  Active Manuka Honey has an additional existence of non-peroxide antibacterial activity.

Heat and light will destroy the enzyme that products hydrogen peroxide in regular honey.
Manuka Honey does not lose the non-peroxide antibacterial activity when heated or exposed to light.  Therefore, Manuka honey is stable and can be stored without losing it’s healing properties.

Manuka Honey Can Be Effective Both Internally and Externally.

Clinical studies have proven the efficacy of Manuka Honey and more are being done at the moment.  Eventually these studies will lead to the acceptance of Manuka honey as a respectable medicine.

Here are some examples for internal use:

Cold and flu symptoms – Stomach Relief – Diarrhea –Heartburn – Stomach Ulcers – Sore Throat – Acid Reflux –Gastritis – Eye infections – Peptic Ulcers – Irritable Bowel

Here are some examples for topical use:

Ginger/Lemon Tea Cold Remedy

My wife and I have used a cold remedy with such great results for so many years, we felt compelled to share it.  We just call it,  “Ginger/Lemon Tea”. You probably already have the ingredients in your kitchen.  If you don’t, you need to go no further than the grocery store to get them.
The ingredients are so powerful and the taste is so good you may want to sip on it anytime for immune support.  Why?
Ginger Root:  Ginger has been well researched and many of its traditional uses confirmed.  Ginger is anti-viral and makes a warming cold and flu remedy and boosts the immune
system.  Lalitha Thomas covers the many benefits of ginger in her book, “Ten Essential Herbs”.

Lemon:   Lemon is a rich source of vitamin C.  It also contains vitamin B, riboflavin and minerals like calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium.
Honey:  The benefits of honey don't just stop at satisfying the palate; honey also offers incredible antiseptic, antioxidant and cleansing properties for our body and health,
How to make your own “Ginger/Lemon Tea”
    1. Grate about one inch of Ginger Root
    2. Boil 1 quart of water
    3. Add grated ginger to boiling water and boil for 4 minutes
    4. Remove water from stove.
    5. Cut a whole lemon in half and squeeze both halves of lemon in water.
    6. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of honey to taste and stir.
    7. Strain
    8. Pour a cup and sip
    9. Put remainder in a thermos or refrigerate.
If you have refrigerated the tea and wish to heat it up later, do not microwave as the microwave will destroy the good properties

About Me

As a part of telling you about us, I would like to share our purpose, passion and what we plan to do here on our Blog.
My name is Joey Lunsford.  In 1990 at the age of 42 my physical condition had deteriorated to the point that I could not go more than 2 to 3 hours a day.  I was so washed out that I could not do anything the rest of the day.  I knew that I needed to do something about this.

Neglect
For the previous 10 years I had neglected to take care of my body.  My idea of breakfast was to stop at the local convenience store and get some sweet cakes and a carton of milk.  My food throughout the day was a mixture of fast foods and more sugar.  My intake of water had been very little for several years.  I drank 10 to 20 soft drinks and or sweet tea each day.

Reality
I am not anti-Doctor or anti-Drug.  However, if I had gone to a doctor and not revealed my bad habits for the previous 10 or more years, who knows what they may have found wrong with me.   Most all the traditional medicine practitioners seem to want to do surgery and prescribe drugs.  Allopathic doctors do not want to go down the road of detoxification, supplementation, and various alternative therapies.   Hence,  my quest for good health.

Looking Back
Growing up in the early 50’s and 60’s we were a family of 12 and very poor.  Mama was the doctor most of the time unless we broke a bone or got pneumonia or worse.  Then we might get to go to the doctor.  Back in the old days, the pioneers were practical-minded people. They knew how to make-do with what they had. They combined folk remedies from centuries earlier in other lands, with herbal formulas borrowed from the Indians.  Mama had learned a lot of these remedies and helped keep us healthy.

At age 62, I can do most anything I want to.  I have done hard physical work with 20 to 40 year olds and have had only a handful of them to keep up with me at a hard pace for 8 to 10 hours straight.

Passion:

After my astounding results through research and application, it is my desire to share this information with everyone.  Many of the topics discussed on this website are from my personal experience from nutrition, to colds, flu virus, sinus problems, stomach problems, kidney stones, joint pain, gall bladder discomfort, bacteria, fungus, digestive, throat problems, colon, headaches, ear infections, heartburn, anti-oxidants, detoxification, supplements and various alternative therapies.

Vision:

In today’s economic dilemma, it is our hope that we can share information that will help those who cannot afford expensive health care.  Through natural remedies they may experience better health.
